History

36 years ago Dad wanted to move to larger premises and saw this little bungalow in the middle of a jungle!

It was very attractive with it's white washed walls and black bars on the windows! Inside was just as attractive as the owner proudly showed us where he brewed his own beer in the bath!

Mum instantly hated it and longed for a nice new bungalow, but Dad got his way in the end and hence the whole family moved to Loxdale!

It was idyllic for us as kids as it meant we could have ponies, pigs, cows and all, but I suspect it was a bit of a shock for Mum having no 'mains' water, no central heating and rats in your roof, it can't have been easy and yet now nearly 40 years have passed and although I long for Mum to live in a nice new bungalow in a nice village, Mum will have none of it and loves Loxdale and her memories of an idyllic life with her husband, 3 kids and 4 grandchildren.

As children after school we all had to help whether it was pricking out plants, mucking out pigs or just making endless cups of tea for our growing work force.

Northern Gardens as it is today stems from customer participation, Dad started the business selling slabs, customers then wanted plants, turf, sheds, lawn mowers garages ect, so he got them. We pride ourselves on customer care - for without them we might as well shut up and sell up.

Today Northern Gardens are proud to offer a fabulous family team that put customer service above anything else and where top quality products still don't cost the earth.

As Derek's daughter I believe he would be proud of the dedication of our small team and the commitment we all have to carry on his life's work.
